The first part of this project was to complete a project proposal. It took me about three tries to get an acceptable proposal though I knew what I wanted to do
The first part of it was to buy my supplies. I took a trip to Fleet Farm with my mom and ended up spending about $200 I think. I ended up switching from getting a wooden dowel to getting a thin PVC pipe. I wasn't sure what to do to stabilize that though so I debated getting expanding foam to fill the tube. I was going to wait to get any more supplies as to not wreck my bank account at the time.
To start the actual design process, I needed to input how I would need to laser the cardboard into Inkscape. I needed to find out hypothetically how long the cardboard would need to be to make a cylinder that has a 1 ft. diameter. and be 2 ft. long when rolled to that diameter.
After that I needed to design the rectangle that I would cut out of the EVA foam. This is the easiest part, I would need to cut the foam into a 3.14 ft. x 6.28 ft. rectangle or two 3.14 ft x 3.14 ft squares. This way I would be able to cover the cardboard with the foam.
The next part I needed to do was to design the wood texture for the EVA foam in Inkscape, this was turning out to be really really difficult because apparently I don't know what wood texture looks like. I ended up looking up a pretty simple wood texture that I traced over as best I could in an app on my phone with a stylus. I then input it into Inkscape. Normally I would've just used my touch screen chromebook but my chromebook is in for repairs.
The next thing I did was to design the rivet in Tinkercad. I knew that it needed to have at least a little bit of a nib for it to be glued into the EVA foam that I would've gotten. That way it should've been pretty easy to attach the two. It does look a little bit like a mushroom.
Next, I needed to design what the vinyl strips would look like if I made them, they would need to be about 1 in. wide and the same length as the cardboard. I would need to find out some way to make the vinyl look like almost a rusting silver color.
